Smart decisions help design, convert visitors into loyal, paying clients

Introduction
Conversion work has a reputation for being a list of tricks — urgency banners, colour changes, popups. The studios that actually move their numbers do something duller: they make fewer, better-reasoned decisions and check each one afterwards.
Decide what you are optimising
A site cannot maximise enquiries, average project value and newsletter signups at once; those three pull in different directions. Naming the one that matters this quarter is what makes every later argument resolvable.
Instrument before you redesign
- Know your current conversion rate before changing anything.
- Record real sessions — the drop-off is rarely where you think.
- Change one substantial thing at a time, or learn nothing.
Loyalty is a post-sale design problem
Winning the first project is a marketing exercise. Winning the second is an experience one, and it is decided by onboarding, reporting and handover — three things almost no studio designs deliberately.
Every design decision is a bet. The useful question is what it costs if you are wrong.

Conclusion
Small, reasoned, measured changes compound. A redesign every two years does not, because it resets everything you had learned along with everything that was wrong.
Decide what matters, measure it, and change one thing.
